Walkerville grad killed on plane which hit first tower

Alexander Filipov, an engineer and a 1950 grad of Walkerville C.I., was on the plane that hit the first World Trade Tower last Sept. 11. A resident of Concord, Mass., Alexander leaves family behind in Windsor, including nephew Robert Filipov and brother John Filipov, in addition to his widow and three sons in Concord.

Usually, Alexander flew on Delta Airlines during his frequent business trips to Los Angeles but inexplicably changed plans at the last minute, ending up aboard the fated Flight 11.

Son of Windsor carpenter Jivco “Jim” Filipov, Alexander was an A-student at Walkerville as well as a member of the football and rifle teams. He began designing and testing inventions as a student, including a device able to locate mineral deposits from the air.
